T&F Alumna Briauna Jones Makes USA Bobsled Team

PARK CITY, UTAH - Former Charlotte track & field athlete Briauna Jones has been named to the USA Bobsled National Team for the 2016-17 season, the organization announced this past weekend.

The addition of twenty-two athletes to the roster was made after the prospective athletes competed in a series of races in Lake Placid, N.Y. and Park City, Utah to vie for a spot in one of three sleds per discipline this season. Jones earned her place on the women's push team with an impressive showing in training and trials.

A native of Summerville, S.C., Jones compiled an impressive resume of awards and records in her time at Charlotte before graduating in 2014. She holds a place on the Top-10 List for the following events: indoor 60-meter dash, indoor long jump, indoor triple jump, indoor high jump, outdoor long jump, outdoor triple jump and outdoor high jump. She was a multiple-time conference medalist in each of those events as well, but her greatest achievement may have come in 2012 when she helped the program's 4x100 meter relay team earn a trip to the National Championships.

Most recently, Jones served as a volunteer coach with the Charlotte track & field program this past season under Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Bob Olesen.

The Bobsled World Cup tour kicks off Dec. 2-3 in Whistler, Canada and continues on home ice in Lake Placid, N.Y. Dec. 16-17 before the circuit breaks for the holiday. World Cup action moves to Europe after the break with races in Altenberg and Winterberg, Germany before heading to the all-natural ice in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The tour then returns to Germany in Koenigssee before heading to Igls, Austria and then 2017 World Championships in Sochi, Russia. The season will conclude with the eighth and final World Cup of the season on the 2018 Olympic track in PyeongChang, South Korea.
