Five Niners Earn All-Region Honors

Charlotte, N.C. – Five members of the nationally-ranked Charlotte 49ers men's soccer team earned United Soccer Coaches Association All-Southeast Region honors. Senior midfielder Tommy Madden and senior defender Callum Montgomery were named first-team All-Region. Senior forward Daniel Bruce, junior midfielder Teddy Chaouche and junior goalkeeper Elliot Panicco earned third-team All-Southeast Region honors.
 
This is the third time in school history that the 49ers have had five players earn All-Region honors in the same season. With Montgomery and Madden earning first-team All-Southeast Region honors, the 49ers have had multiple players earn first-team All-Region honors in the same season eight times in school history. With Madden, Chaouche and Bruce earning All-Region honors for the first time, the 49ers have had 53 different players earn All-Region honors in the program's history.

These five players played an integral role in helping the 49ers earn a Top 20 national ranking and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament this year.
 
This season, Madden earned first-team All-Conference USA honors while recording a career-high in goals with four and assists with five. Madden scored the game-winning goal in the 49ers 1-0 victory over New Mexico in their final regular-season game.
 
This marks the second time in Montgomery's career that he has earned All-Region honors after earning second-team All-Region honors last season. Montgomery earned first-team All-Conference USA honors as well as being named Conference USA Defender of the Year. He was also named to the Conference USA All-Tournament team. This season, he anchored a 49ers defense that recorded thirteen shutouts including ten at Transamerica Field. He also played an integral role in helping the 49ers defense record over 1,000 minutes of play at Transamerica Field without conceding a goal. The senior defender was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week two times this season (August 27 and September 17). 
 
In his last season with Charlotte, Bruce, who earned second-team All-Conference USA honors, recorded an impressive six goals to go along with five assists. Bruce led the 49ers in points with 17. The senior recorded two goals in a 4-0 win over FIU. Bruce's six goals this season brought his four-year career total to 18 which includes a goal in the 49ers NCAA Tournament game against Georgia State.
 
This season, Chaouche was named second-team All-Conference USA and to the Conference USA All-Tournament team. He led the team with a career-high ten assists. He recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over USC Upstate and tallied two assists in the 49ers 4-0 win over Florida Atlantic.

Panicco earned first-team All-Southeast Region honors as a freshman in 2016. Panicco earned Conference USA's Golden Glove award for the second time in his career this season. The redshirt junior, who was a first-team All-Conference USA selection, did not allow a goal at Transamerica Field during the entire regular season.   This season, he anchored a 49ers defense that recorded thirteen shutouts including ten at Transamerica Field. He also played an integral role in helping the 49ers defense record over 1,000 minutes of play at Transamerica Field without conceding a goal. His achievements resulted in being named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week three times this season.
